Capacity building program at the National Library and Archives

From April 4 to 6, the US Embassy-Togo, in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, supported a training workshop for personnel at the National Library in Lome. The American expert, Assistant Professor and Preservation Librarian Kyle Rimkus animated the workshop with the purpose to equip ten employees from the National Library with necessary skills and abilities for the conservation and digitization of Togo’s National Archives. During the opening ceremony on April 4, the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section also made a donation of equipment to the Archives including computers, document cameras, and specialized lamps for a total amount of about USD 6,000. This workshop is the opening of a continuing process of modernization of the National Library.
