On July 12, 2017, Ambassador Gilmour and staff from the U.S. Embassy visited “Camp Unité” , a leadership camp for teenage boys and girls organized by Peace Corps and the Togo YMCA, in Bagbe, a town about 35 km from Lome. ” Camp Unité” is a two-week  event that brings together 130 boys and girls with the purpose to promote  democratic values of teamwork, respect for others, good citizenship, and more, among Togolese youth.  During his visit, Ambassador Gilmour engaged in a lively 45-minute town hall discussion with girl campers. During the session, he promoted valuable lessons in leadership, tolerance, civic duty, the importance of studying English. Through supporting this youth empowerment program, the US Embassy is meaningfully engaged in Togo’s sustainable development.
