On Saturday June 10,  more than 600 young people from schools, universities, NGOs and private companies from Lome participated in the World Ocean Day, organized by CAPLO (Friends of the Beach and Oceans) and STADD (African Science and Technology for Sustainable Development), and supported by the US Embassy in Togo. Apart from cleaning up a distance of one kilometer along the beach in front of the “Hotel de la Paix”, the day was also marked by awareness rising messages of the students through their skits, and a display of products derived from plastic waste . The Minister of the Environment, the US Ambassador, Miss Togo 2017 and several senior representatives of Ministries participated actively. It was a strong sign of the mobilization of the Togolese youth.

Through his remarks, the US Ambassador, David Gilmour, call on the Togolese public to shape  efforts for  protecting the ocean for a  sustainable development  saying : “I urge all actors in social, political and economic life to work together for the adoption, in the very near future, of a beneficial national strategy based on the rational management of the immense natural resources of Togo. ”
