On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, about 40 Togolese journalists were invited to a digital videoconference co-hosted by the U.S. Embassy to Togo and the Africa Regional Services-Paris on April 30. Ms. Elizabeth Bryant, a Paris-based American journalist conducted the conference and together with the participants, discussed how to manage obstacles to media independence, media’s role and duties, and coverage of post-election periods. On May 2, the soccer team of the U.S. mission to Togo and Togo Sports Journalists Association played a friendly match at Lomé Municipal Stadium. Mrs. Dana Banks, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy gave the kickoff of the game which ended in a nil draw (1-1). She later stated the match was the culmination of a series of eight professional activities the Embassy organized in a year for media.
